Cristiano Ronaldo sends Wayne Rooney message on Twitter

Real Madrid legend contacted his former Manchester United team-mate following his club's La Decima success in the Champions League.

Peaking footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, 29, has enjoyed his most historic season to date.

The Real Madrid star returned an 85% passing accuracy, was responsible for the creation of 22 goal-scoring opportunities (four of which turned into direct assists), dispatched 76 shots and scored 17 goals from 11 Champions League appearances.

In combined European and domestic (La Liga, Copa del Rey) competition, Ronaldo was responsible for an extraordinary 70 goals (51 goals, 19 assists) - all from 47 appearances, which works out at a goal scored or assist provided once every 56 minutes he is on the field, on average.

Personally, the season for Ronaldo has been outstanding. He committed to a new four-and-a-half year contract earlier in the campaign, becoming (temporarily) the highest paid footballer, he netted a plethora of personal honours, including the Ballon d'Or yet saved his ultimate success till last - the Champions League trophy, a competition he had broken records for due to his prolific scoring.

Real Madrid defeated local rivals Atletico by a 4-1 score after extra-time, yet before the match Wayne Rooney sent his well wishes to his former Manchester United team-mate: "All the best tonight, Ronnie - remember Moscow. Risk everything."

Ronaldo, for the majority of the match's duration, had a game to forget, however, he converted a 120th minute, ripped his shirt off and roared off to the crowd, before lifting the big ears of the trophy.

He was swift to say thanks to Rooney…
