Arsenal are said to have a considerable budget to spend on new players this summer, with the Emirates Stadium faithful hopeful that Arsene Wenger will bring in the players in the off-season to get the club back into the Premier League title reckoning.
Centre forward has repeatedly been singled out as an area that needs reinforcement, with Olivier Giroud and the largely untested Yaya Sanogo carrying the goalscoring responsibility for the Gunners.
The North London side made moves to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, with Roma’s Mattia Destro a player said to have been in Arsenal’s thoughts.
The Italy international had an excellent season for a rejuvenated Giallorossi, leading to plenty of transfer speculation with other clubs.
However, if Arsenal were considering Destro as a potential option this summer, it looks likely that they will need to look elsewhere - as the player is happy in Rome.
“When a player is sought after by other teams it is always a pleasure,” Destro’s agent Renzo Contratto told ASRadioRoma.
“This does not mean though that he will leave. Mattia wants to stay in Rome and be a leader for the Giallorossi.”
Wenger has revealed that his recruitment plans are likely to occur after this summer’s World Cup.
The Gunners ended a nine-year trophy drought with FA Cup success in 2013-14.
