All eyes are on the World Cup in Brazil following Real Madrid’s dramatic win in the Champions League.
There was heartbreak for London club Leyton Orient yesterday, beaten on penalties in the League One play-off final and the rumour mill continues to go into overdrive.
We’ve taken a look back at some of the stories grabbing the headlines on this day last year.
‘Rooney yet to speak with Moyes’
Wayne Rooney hadn’t spoken to new Manchester United manager David Moyes over his future at Old Trafford.
Rooney asked to leave the club according to Sir Alex Ferguson, with the pair falling out before Fergie’s retirement.
Moyes managed to convince Rooney to sign a new contract worth £300,000 per week before he was sacked by Old Trafford officials.
‘Neymar snubs Chelsea and Man City’
Chelsea were one of the sides linked with a swoop for Brazilian star Neymar.
Manchester City were also reported to be looking at a deal to sign the forward from Santos.
However, he eventually moved to Barcelona, signing a long term contract which created controversy in Spain over how the deal was funded.
‘Podolski rules out Arsenal exit’
German striker Lukas Podolski ruled out an exit away from Arsenal.
The Arsenal star was being linked with a return to the Bundesliga, but voiced his frustration at the rumours and reassured fans that he wasn’t leaving.
“I feel very comfortable and I am completely satisfied with my first year in England. I have no intention to leave the club,” he said.
‘Liverpool close to Atsu deal’
Liverpool were reportedly close to completing a deal for then FC Porto winger Christian Atsu.
Reports had suggested that the Reds were ahead in the race to sign the winger, with Chelsea also interested.
Jose Mourinho went on to complete a deal for Atsu before loaning him out last season.
