Real Madrid won the fabled Decima on Saturday, with two former Tottenham players featuring heavily for the new European champions.
Gareth Bale headed home the decisive second goal in a 4-1 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s men – again going some way to justifying his world record transfer fee from last summer.
Ex-Spurs and Liverpool man Jamie Redknapp has been singing Bale’s praises after the final in Lisbon and feels the flying winger can be the best player in the world within five years.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two best players in world football, but Gareth Bale is the heir to the throne,” Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“There is no doubt he can be the best player on the planet in five years’ time.
“What Bale has achieved in his first season at Real Madrid is nothing short of sensational. To go to a new club, a new country and an entirely new culture and perform as he has done is remarkable.”
Redknapp highlighted Bale’s ability to make a big difference when it matters as a key reason he can go on to great things.
“He was not at his best on Saturday night but big players change games and that’s exactly what he’s done,” Redknapp continued.
“He scored a wonder goal to win the Copa del Rey last month and made the crucial breakthrough in extra time in the Champions League.”
Tottenham have struggled since Bale’s departure and the Welshman had to win over the Santiago Bernabeu faithful after a slow start to life in Spain.
However, with Madrid winning a double this term, Bale is now firmly a fans’ favourite.
