We look at the top 11 players who have been left out of their respective teams and whose international careers are pretty much over.
The 2014 World Cup in Brazil is less than a month away. It will provide the platform for some of the best players in the world to cement his legacy.
However, there will be some players who will not get to make an impression because they have been left out of their respective squads.
Below is a team comprising of the top 11 players who will not feature in Brazil.
RB - Alvaro Arbeloa: Spain's competitive full-back situation means that Champions League winner Arbeloa has not made the cut. Injuries have not helped his chances of securing a place on the plane to Brazil and his inconsistent season has cost him.
CB - John Terry: Despite rumours circulating that England manager Roy Hodgson was planning to persuade Terry to re-consider his retirement, the Chelsea centre-back was not selected, as he stands by his decision to no longer play for his country.
LB - Ashley Cole: England’s most capped full-back has not made the Three Lions squad for Brazil. Arguably the best player in the world in his position, Cole has struggled this season and has had to make way for Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw. The surprising decision by Hodgson has resulted in the Chelsea man retiring from the international game.
MF - Samir Nasri: Didier Deschamps has made it clear that he wants a team and not individuals. The Manchester City star’s skills and technical craft on the ball mean nothing when the French side is picked on attitude and team cohesion.
MF - Kaka: Formerly the most expensive player in the world, Kaka has been omitted from Brazil's World Cup squad. The attacking midfielder's unfortunate injury situation has been a contributing factor in his demise.
MF - Robinho: Another Brazilian star has been omitted from the squad. The AC Milan forward has not done enough to keep his head above water and fight off competition in the 23-man squad.
F - Carlos Vela: The Mexican has come on leaps and bounds since his departure from Arsenal in 2011. He has notched up 21 goals this season in La Liga and could return to the Premier League. However, it is his attitude that is letting him down as Vela has fallen out of favour with the Mexican staff after making himself "unavailable".
F - Mario Gomez: The striker was a key player for Germany at the European Championships. Since then, Gomez has left Bayern Munich and has fallen down the pecking order on the international stage. Struck by injuries, Gomez cannot seem to reignite the form he once had.
F - Carlos Tevez: Tevez has been dropped from the Argentina squad and finds himself on his way to Disneyland. The world-class striker will be sorely missed by all football followers.
