Van Persie admits he is 'looking forward' to 'new process' under Van Gaal

Van Persie United

Robin van Persie has more to benefit from the appointment of Louis van Gaal than most.

Manchester United are on the dawn of a new era under Louis van Gaal - with the Dutch national team coach confirmed to be taking over permanently from David Moyes after the World Cup this summer.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has the small task of taking the Dutch as far as possible in Brazil this summer - before trying to reshape a flagging empire at Old Trafford.

It is also expected that the man who will lead that empire on the pitch is fellow Dutchman Robin van Persie. RvP reportedly had a tense relationship with Moyes, as he was allegedly not keen on Moyes' training methods.

His relationship with van Gaal however is certainly good.

The pair were often snapped together during his recent lay-off with a knee injury, and their wives reportedly go shopping together. Not to mention the fact the United striker is captain for the Dutch national team under his future Red Devils boss.

He is therefore expected to be handed the captains armband when van Gaal arrives at the club. something that will certainly leave Patrice Evra and Wayne Rooney feeling a little bent out of shape.

Quite clearly the appointment of van Gaal is good news for van Persie, so it is no wonder that some have even alleged, quite sensationally, that he might have had a hand in the appointment of the new coach.

But he has moved to make it clear that this was not the case in an interview with Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad, stating:

"No, the management of Manchester United did not ask me. But if they watched from a distance they would know how we have been with each other. I have had two very pleasant years under him with the Oranje. He is very clear. I'm going to have a new process over the next two years with Van Gaal at my club. I'm really looking forward to it."

So while he wanted to make sure he had no direct influence on the decision, it is clear that he is very pleased with the decision and will obviously be hoping the appointment sees him shine once again.
