Real Madrid are the Champions of European club football after defeating city rivals Atletico in the Champions League final in Lisbon. The 4-1 scoreline was certainly harsh on Los Colchoneros, who did not deserve to lose by such a distance - but goals from Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo proved enough to overcome Diego Godin's first-half opener.
One player who would have been very interested in the result was Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil. The Gunners record signing arrived at the club last summer for a £42.4 million fee from Los Merengues and watched the game from Germany's training camp in South Tyrol yesterday.
He left The Bernabeu in less than amicable circumstances, with director of football Zinedine Zidane suggesting he lacked the fight to stay and earn his place in the Real starting XI. Meanwhile his departure did not go down well with several members of the Real first-team - who were sad to see one of their most creative players leave the club.
But Ozil was still happy to see old friends reign supreme in Portugal. Arsenal fans will hope that next year he can guide his new club to the pinnacle of European club football.
