On this day: Arsenal want Pogba and Mourinho after £30m star

On the 25th May 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? IncludingManchester United, Arsenal, Swansea, Stoke City and Liverpool.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 25th May 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 25th May 2013…

Wenger wants Pogba

Arsenal were being heavily linked with a move for former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The Frenchman had excelled since leaving Old Trafford - where he felt he was not given enough opportunities to excel in the first-team.

The Gunners had reportedly wanted him on two other occasions, but Pogba chose United and Juve respectively.

He would have been an expensive but excellent acquisition, however Pogba did not end up leaving Italy.

A year later and he is again being linked with a move back to the Premier League. Unfortunately for Arsenal it is Chelsea who are being linked with his signature this time around.

Mourinho's a Mod

Jose Mourinho was reportedly determined to bring Luka Modric back with him from Real Madrid to Chelsea. The Croatian was reportedly available for £30 million after an uninspiring debut campaign in La Liga.

Regardless Mourinho was said to be a big fan of the player, and wanted the Croatian to return to the Premier League with him in the summer.

However that never happened, Modric instead staying with Real. This season has been far more profitable for the diminutive creator and yesterday he was one of the star players as Real Madrid win their tenth European Cup title against fierce rivals Atletico.

Robbo says Roo will stay

Manchester United legend and former captain Bryan Robson was adamant that Wayne Rooney was unlikely to leave the club. The England international striker was reportedly 'hell bent' on leaving United - but Robson doubted that rhetoric.

As usual he was right, with Rooney staying and signing a new contract in the process of last season.
