Liverpool star’s message should worry England fans

Luis Suarez is confident that he will regain his full fitness in time for next month’s World Cup.

Uruguay international forward Luis Suarez has assured his fans that he will recover in time for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 27-year-old striker’s participation in football’s biggest competition came under doubt because of the injury he suffered during Liverpool’s final Premier League game of the season.

Apparently Suarez picked up the knee injury against Newcastle United following a challenge from Paul Dummett. He underwent surgery on Thursday and the Uruguay Football Association (AUF) said in a statement that the striker is set to regain his full fitness by the start of the competition.

The former Ajax man himself has now stated that he will be playing for his country in Brazil next month, posting a message to that effect on social networking site Twitter.

Should England supporters be worried that Suarez is confident that he will recover in time for next month’s gala event? Yes.

Even if Suarez is not 100% fit, he will still be a force for Uruguay, who are in the same group as the Three Lions. Costa Rica and Italy complete Group D, which is considered by many as the most difficult.

Suarez was easily the best striker in England in 2013-14, scoring 31 goals and providing 12 assists in 33 league appearances. Back in 2010, he proved a key player in Uruguay’s progress to the semi-finals of the World Cup. This time he will be just as important for the two-time world champions.
