A select round-up of all the latest trade and free agency rumor and speculation relating to the Chicago Bulls, also featuring Carmelo Anthony.
The Chicago Bulls have already promised fans they will be 'active' this off-season, and are linked with several big names moves. Here is a look at four of the possibilities:
Pau Gasol to the Bulls?
LA Lakers veteran Pau Gasol will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and is expected to make fresh start after the two past unsuccessful seasons in Los Angeles. Talk suggesting the Bulls as a destination has existed for a couple of months now, with ProBasketballTalk tipping the Spaniard for a switch to the Bulls, also listing Cleveland and Charlotte as destinations. Gasol is said to want to join a team in with a championship chance, and with Gasol alongside a fit Derrick Rose, and further shrewd off-season moves, Chicago can be expected to improve on recent post-season showings. Crucially, Gasol has publicly come out just this week and talked up the possibility of a Bulls move, telling the SB Nation Chicago Bulls Blog: "The Chicago Bulls, with the return of Derrick Rose and the possible addition of Nikola Mirotic, could be an interesting team." Financially the deal could be done providing Chicago offload Carlos Boozer, as has been repeatedly touted this off-season.
Kevin Love to Chicago?
Gasol is an interesting option for certain, but after a disappointing season in LA, many may rather see Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love arrive. Love is determined to leave Minnesota to further his career either in a trade this summer or as a free agent in 2015. Many teams are interested including the Warriors, Rockets, and even the Heat and the Lakers have been linked, but Chicago are a very viable option. ESPN reported just this week that Love is 'intrigued' by two possible teams, the Bulls and the Warriors. Love's arrival would take the pressure off Derrick Rose, and be the All-Star Chicago have been waiting for to partner him with. Chicago hold picks 16 and 19 in the upcoming draft and may choose to deal these to Minnesota as part of a trade.
Carlos Boozer to...?
The Bulls are claimed to have already decided Boozer will not be returning, per the Chicago Sun Times. Power forward Boozer has been in Chicago since 2010, but has failed to help rise above anything but a role-playing figure for the team, without helping the Bulls kick on to the heights they aspire to. The report suggests the Bulls are considering amnestying Boozer's contract, to save upwards of $15 million to spend on potential acquisitions. Alternate reports suggest Boozer could be traded to Minnesota as part of a deal for Kevin Love.
Carmelo Anthony to the Bulls?
If not Kevin Love, the big temptation above Gasol is pending free agent Carmelo Anthony. The New York Knick is among the most in-demand players this summer. The New York Daily News reported earlier this month that Chicago are considering making a move for Carmelo, who could yet decide to stay in New York dependent on the results of the Knicks' coaching search. Anthony is also interesting the Houston Rockets, who are eager to improve on their first round play-off loss to Portland next season.
