Atletico Madrid took on Real Madrid last night in the Champions League final in Lisbon, a game which Real emerged from with their tenth European Cup glory.
For Atleti it was a disappointing way to finish the season, but it might have also been the final game for two of their star players in goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and striker Diego Costa.
Costa is expected to join Chelsea for £32 million this summer whilst Courtois is only on loan from the club. The latter's future is perhaps the most complex. He is believed to want an Atleti stay after three successful years at the club, but with Petr Cech injured Jose Mourinho might just be bringing him back to the club this summer.
So in what was perhaps his last game for Los Colchoneros, how did he get on?
Despite conceding four goals it is fair to say he played very well.
Throughout the game he looked confident when coming to claim the ball and when troubled by rasping drives he showed good hands to prevent the ball bobbling out to an opposing striker.
He could do very little about the first goal. Sergio Ramos met a perfectly delivered corner with aplomb, and it was beyond the Belgian before he had a chance to react.
The second goal was his most unfortunate moment. He made an incredible save with his foot from Angel Di Maria but the ball looped up into the air, landing perfectly on the head of Gareth Bale at the far-post to nod in for 3-1.
With the game seemingly over he could have done better with Marcelo's goal. The ball just squirmed underneath his left-hand to crawl into the back of the net. The fourth was a Ronaldo, penalty - so no shame there.
Overall it was once again an impressive performance from the giant Belgian. He showed once again why Mourinho obviously has a big decision to make this summer regarding his first-choice goalkeeper.
But what did Chelsea fans think of his performance on Twitter?
Here is a brief selection of the reaction...
The club must do everything it can to bring Courtois back and make him feel wanted. #CFC— David (@CFCsocial) May 25, 2014
If Cech goes I'll be upset for sure, but the bringing in of Courtois will soon wipe those emotions away.— Mātt (@BIuesViews) May 25, 2014
We need Courtois now. If we don't bring him in we'll live to regret it.— John (@TheChelseaTalk) May 25, 2014
Courtois is absolutely brilliant. We need him next season!— DailyChelseaFC (@DailyChelseaFC) May 24, 2014
If we lose out on Courtois. If we don't bring him back to the Bridge, I will cry myself to sleep for months on end.— Liam (@Mourinholic) May 24, 2014
What a goal marcelo! And probably the first goal that courtois should have saved all season!— jacob (@jacob9417) May 24, 2014
Looking forward to seeing Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea, quality young keeper!— J.Singh (@ImSinghy) May 24, 2014
