Rummenigge admits Bayern want to keep Man United target Toni Kroos

The Allianz Arena chief has admitted that he hopes the Germany international will extend his stay in Bavaria.

Manchester United’s chase of Toni Kroos appears to have run aground, with reports in the British press that the midfielder is set to spurn the chance to move to Old Trafford.

The Germany international’s contract expires next summer and the outgoing European champions face the real possibility of losing the star on a free transfer in 12 months time.

Kroos has stalled on a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s men, leading to increased speculation over a move elsewhere.

In an interview with the Bayern official website, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has reiterated that the German giants want to keep the homegrown talent.

As I’ve always said, our aim is to agree a contract extension, and that still applies,” the chief said.

“If we can’t, we’ll have to think about other options.”

United are in real need of a creative midfielder this summer, and it appears that they will need to look at other options in the Kroos chase.

The German’s future is expected to be sorted out one way or the other after the World Cup.
