La Decima is complete, Real Madrid have won their tenth European Cup after a win against their city rivals Atletico in the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.
Much of the talk before the game revolved around the injury issues surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa. However Ronaldo had a poor game, although a late penalty afforded him the chance to get on the scoresheet, and Costa left the field after eight minutes. Indeed it was other names who stole the show.
The first half was all Atletico - and Diego Godin scored a header after a mistake from Iker Casillas.
Real Madrid changed the flow of the game with two changes in the second half, Isco and Marcelo entering the fray for Sami Khedira and Fabio Coentrao.
Real then piled on the pressure but left it late, with a goal in the 90th minute from Sergio Ramos taking the game to extra time.
The last 30 minutes were then all Real. They dominated extra time and it was Gareth Bale who looked to have won the game in extra time. Thibaut Courtois made a terrific save from Angel Di Maria which looped up for Bale to head home and give Real a 2-1 lead.
As Los Colchoneros pushed on for an equaliser gaps opened up. Marcelo was rewarded for his excellent performance, a strike squirming under Courtois, before Gabi took down Ronaldo in the penalty box - who dusted himself off to strike home for 4-1.
There were some sour scenes at the end when Diego Simeone blew a gasket, but he was good enough to shake hands with Real players after the full-time whistle went, congratulations Real deserved after they excellently chasing their much coveted La Decima.
