Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia will not be leaving the club this summer according to his agent.
Reports earlier this month suggested that Inter Milan were among the sides considering a move for the 27-year-old Spaniard. But Portuguese newspaper A Bola has now published quotes from his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon that rule out that prospect.
“There is not much to say,” Quilon is quoted as saying. “The player will not leave Manchester City. I can ensure that 100 percent.”
With the future of Yaya Toure in some doubt, and with the likes of Jack Rodwell and James Milner tipped to leave the Etihad Stadium prior to the new campaign, Manuel Pellegrini will no doubt be relieved that the future of Garcia appears secure.
The player made 43 appearances for the Blues this season, and with a contract until the summer of 2017 it seems his future is settled for now.
City have been linked with midfield reinforcements; most notably FC Porto’s Fernando. But if Toure does leave this summer – which appears far more likely than it did this time last week – Garcia’s importance to the team could increase even more, regardless of who arrives.
