Liverpool star backs Real Madrid for Champions League triumph

Jon Flanagan believes that Real Madrid will win the European Cup on Saturday.

Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan has backed Real Madrid to win the Champions League final.

Los Blancos will take on their city-rivals Atletico Madrid at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on Saturday.

Madrid will head into the contest looking for their 10th European Cup – La Decima. Last time they won it was back in 2002, and this is the first time in 12 years that they have progressed as far as the final.

Under Jose Mourinho, the 32-time Spanish champions reached the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition three years in a row. However, they failed to advance to the final.

Now under Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid have crossed that hurdle and are now relishing the prospect of winning the Champions League for the 10th time in their history.

It is an obsession for Madrid and the fans will be eager for the players to give their all and deliver the goods in Portugal.

One Liverpool player believes that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema will win the final against Atletico. And that is 21-year-old full-back Flanagan.

The England Under-21 international gave his prediction of the match on social networking site Twitter, while also giving his thoughts on the Championship playoff final between Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.

Madrid will head into the final as favourites, but Atletico will not be easy pushovers. Diego Simeone’s side have won La Liga for the first time since 1996 and will be keen to do the double.

The pressure is on Madrid, not on Atletico.
