Reported Manchester United target Arjen Robben has ruled out a move to Old Trafford.
The Bayern Munich attacker had been tipped to join Louis van Gaal this summer, but in an interview with De Telegraaf the Dutch international quashed the rumours.
“I cannot imagine that Bayern would lose me,” Robben said. “I just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other.”
He then went on to say that he would consider a move to United…if he was not happy with his current situation. However, the bad news for van Gaal is that he is.
“Look, it’s very different when you’re not completely happy,” Robben added. “I would certainly be open to it because I had a fantastic time with van Gaal at FC Bayern and know what I mean to him.
“The fact is I am at a club where my family and I have a great time.”
Getting Robben was always going to be a long-shot. After all, the former Chelsea player only agreed a new deal earlier this season and he is vital to Bayern Munich’s future.
Following the news that United have reportedly pulled out of a deal to bring Toni Kroos to the club, it seems that all those Bayern players tipped to join van Gaal’s revolution may not be coming after all.
So the only question is: Who will arrive? Because as good as the 62-year-old is in the dug-out he needs a number of new additions to turn United back into contenders once more.
