Twitter reaction to Patrice Evra signing new Manchester United deal

Evra And Fellaini

We bring you the best Twitter reaction following the official news of Manchester United’s Patrice Evra singing a new contract at the club.

In what is expected to be an extremely busy summer for Manchester United and new boss Louis Van Gaal, the Red Devils have arguably made their biggest decision to date.

Before any new signings can be made, the situation regarding out of contract players was always going to be Dutchman's first big call and it is one which is no doubt going to draw strong debate for some weeks.

According to the official Manchester United website, United have therefore decided to retain the services of 33-year-old left-back Patrice Evra by concluding a new one-year extension to his contract.

The French international has spent eight years at Old Trafford, making a total of 379 appearances whilst helping the club win five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a memorable Champions League triumph in 2008.

His stay at Old Trafford was expected to end this summer, with speculation circling of interest from Italy and perhaps a return to former club AS Monaco.

All such rumours, however, can now be dismissed as the five-time Premier League winner is set to remain at United and try and help bring back European football to one of world’s most recognised clubs.

The decision appears to have garnered mixed feelings from the Manchester United supporters, with some identifying the need to hold on to a key experienced player following the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, whereas others are keen for Van Gaal to ship out the ageing stars and build a new youthful side.
