Klinsmann shocks the USA with amazing Landon Donovan decision

Jurgen Klinsmann named his final 23-man squad for the World Cup last night, but stunned the US by leaving Landon Donovan out of the squad

The 32-year-old has 156 caps for the USMNT but is unlikely to feature again after being dropped from the team heading out to Brazil next month.

The LA Galaxy midfielder is the record-goalscorer for the US, and will miss out on what would have been his fourth consecutive World Cup.

Klinsmann explained that leaving Donovan out of the final 23 was “one of the hardest decisions he has made in his coaching career”.

The former-Everton loanee is a football icon in the US, and the nation was left shocked, and disappointed by the absence of their talisman.

Young Bayern Munich forward Julian Green made the final cut, despite only playing once for the USMNT, and it will be interesting to see how Klinsmann’s side do in the ‘Group of Death’ alongside Germany, Ghana and Portugal.

Landon Donovan revealed his disappointment via facebook late on Thursday evening.

“It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the US National Team in three World Cups, I was looking forward to playing in Brazil, as you can imagine, I am very disappointed with today's decision."
