Giaccherini: I want to stay at Sunderland

Despite not having an ideal first season at Sunderland, Emanuele Giaccherini is keen to stay with the Black Cats.

Emanuele Giaccherini's maiden Premier League season was a little underwhelming but the Italian winger doesn't seem to be craving a return to Serie A.

Sunderland pulled off something of a coup when they signed Giaccherini from Juventus last summer and the transfer raised some eyebrows in Italy.

Giaccherini has 18 caps for his country and was part of the squad that sealed qualification for the World Cup, but he didn't secure a place on the plane for Brazil after struggling for regular first-team football in the second half of the season.

It had been suggested that Giaccherini would abandon his English experiment and return to Serie A but he seems to be settled.

"To be honest it's too soon to think about my future because I'm on holiday and finally having a few days of rest after two years of going around the world," Giaccherini told

"My intention is certainly to remain at Sunderland though. I am happy at the club and I will talk to the manager when the time is right to hear his thoughts and to know what my role is.

"I have three years left on my contract and I would like to stay in the Premier League wearing this shirt," he concluded.
