Reports overnight have added weight to rumours Toni Kroos is on his way to Manchester United, and club legend Paul Scholes has urged them to do the deal.
The former United and England midfielder believes the German international has everything in his locker to rejuvenate the Red Devils.
Writing exclusively for Paddy Power, he said: "The first player I’d bring in is Toni Kroos. He’s a top-class central midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again.
He also fired a warning shot to CEO Ed Woodward: "Edward Woodward has an awful lot to prove this time that he’s good enough at his job. He has to bring the players in that the new manager wants. It’s obvious that last year he didn’t manage to do that. If he doesn’t, we are not going to get anywhere near the top."
New manager Louis van Gaal was officially appointed earlier this week, and it has been claimed he has between £100 million and £200 million to spend on players.
The Mail claimed last night that Toni Kroos was on his way to United in a £20 million deal, but neither the club nor Bayern Munich are yet to comment.
Kroos has been in magnificent form this season for Bayern, and at United would rejoin former manager Louis van Gaal.
He has just one year remaining on his contract in Munich and has refused to commit to a new deal at the club.
