Liverpool, Arsenal target's agent admits he is desperate to force move - Time to pounce?

Hakan Calhanoglu's agent has revealed the midfielder is desperate to move to a Champions League club.

We reported yesterday how highly rated Hakan Calhanoglu has set his sights on a move, with the midfielder stating Champions League football is his goal.

“Every footballer has the goal of playing in the Champions League,” Calhanoglu told the Hamburger Morgenpost. “That is my wish. I hope the club respond to it.”

The comments from the Hamburg star, nicknamed the 'next Ozil' caused anger among the club's fans, using social networks to brand him a traitor and hypocrite, reporting German website Sport1.

The same news outlet carries a fresh interview with his agent Bektas Demirtas, who has added more fuel to the fire.

"I'm a fan of win-win situations, a player has come for 2.5 million euros, has contributed significantly to the league and could go with a tidy profit without all the emotion and hysteria, the decision is quite clear."

Calhanoglu, 20, was playing in the German second division a year ago, but his valuable contribution of 11 goals and four assists helped Hamburg avoid relegation themselves. He now believes the club should be thankful and allow him to move on.

The Turkish international has cited his ambition of playing at Euro 2016 as his inspiration, saying he wants to step up and play Champions League football to help his country qualify and compete at the tournament.

Fans feel particularly upset with Calhanoglu because he signed a new contract extension with Hamburg just in February, which takes him up until 2018.

The playmaker has set his sights on Bayer Leverkusen, but the bitter feeling is likely to cause Hamburg to feel more resentful about selling to another Bundesliga club.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with the attacking midfielder, who would act as an alternative for either Mesut Ozil or Coutinho.

With Hamburg in a tricky spot with a player who has set his sights so determinedly on a move, a Premier League team able to offer him his dream of Champions League football may become a good compromise for the German side.
