Spanish media speculates that Mourinho is behind Toure unrest

A Spanish newspaper has given it's view on the speculation surrounding the future of the Manchester City midfielder.

Reports in Spain have suggested that the man behind Yaya Toure’s shenanigans of late may not just be his agent but also that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, suggesting he may want to sign the player.

Toure is said to be unhappy at Manchester City because the club failed to acknowledge his birthday, with his agent suggesting the player was very unhappy with the club’s hierarchy over the situation.

His agent Dimitri Seluk, said: "The club's owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday. It shows they don't care about him."

There has been talk that Toure may make a return to Barcelona as a result but Mundo Deportivo believes that it could be a smokescreen, and that Chelsea will make a bid to lure him from the Etihad Stadium to Stamford Bridge.

If it is true it may unsettle one of Chelsea’s rivals for the Premier League title rivals next season, but Mourinho has spoken highly of the 31-year-old in the past.

Ahead of one of Chelsea's encounters with Manchester City this season, Mourinho said: “He gives them everything. Leadership, defensive work, attacking work, goals, set-plays, physicality, experience.”

But there was time during the season where Toure told the Chelsea boss publicly to shut up as both sides were competing for the Premier League title.

The article also indicates that Mourinho was an admirer of the midfielder during his time at Real Madrid.

If Mourinho were to show interest in Toure it would certainly bring an interesting twist to this saga.
