Real chiefs have doubts over Isco - How Chelsea, Man City could take advantage

Real Madrid bosses are reportedly still harbouring doubts over Isco's future at the club.

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has been tipped to start the Champions League final this weekend against Atletico Madrid.

That would seem to be the biggest show of faith that Carlo Ancelotti has complete confidence in a player who has seen his form go up and down like a yoyo throughout the past season.

However, a report from pro-Madrid newspaper Marca suggests there are still doubts over the 22-year-old at the club.

“The Bernabéu head honchos have been less than enamoured with the 22-year-old's recent displays. Isco started all of the last four 'La Liga' games, during which Real blew their title chances, and was unable to save the team's blushes against Valencia, Valladolid or Celta,” reports Marca.

Real Madrid are a club that allow policy to be dictated from the top of the club more so than is the case with their European rivals.

While manager Ancelotti controls the team, a great deal of transfer policy has been dictated outside of the manager’s influence.

President Florentino Perez has overseen the big money transfers of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur and is believed to be interested in Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

If pressure is placed on Perez then he could pull the trigger on a player who arrived at the club with a lot of promise and that plays into the hands of Chelsea and Manchester City, two Premier League sides previously linked with Isco.

Chelsea have a midfield void to fill which was created when Jose Mourinho commissioned the sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United last season.

However, as good a signing as Isco would be for the Blues, there are doubts over his defensive work rate, something that Mourinho demands now more than ever from his first team stars.

Manchester City have the better chance of landing him should he become available because of Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean worked closely with Isco when the pair were together at Malaga in La Liga and Pellegrini would almost certainly jump at the chance to sign him for the Premier League champions.

However, his prospects of regular football at City are questionable with so many good central midfield players at Pellegrini’s disposal, which sees David Silva and Samir Nasri playing wider roles down either side of the midfield.

It should be a very interesting summer for him.
