Newcastle may have to wait three more weeks before they complete the transfer of Ayoze Perez according to a report.
Stories in the last 24 hours have suggested that the Tenerife striker is on the verge of finalising a move to St James’ Park, with some even claiming a deal could be completed by the end of today. But now the Shields Gazette reports that nothing will be completed until the player ends his domestic season.
Tenerife still have three games left in Spain’s Segunda Division, with the weekend’s match away to Sabadell followed by games against Real Murcia and Sporting Gijon.
That last match is not until Tuesday 10 June, meaning that Alan Pardew looks set to have to wait three more weeks before he can get his man.
Perez was reportedly in Newcastle earlier this week to undergo a medical, but an announcement may still be someway off if the latest story is believed.
The 20-year-old has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 33 league appearances this season. That equates to a goal every 167 minutes.
Newcastle are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to build on their 10-placed finish this season.
