News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.
England manager Roy Hodgson has joked he could beat United with ‘a pub team’.
"You can organise a pub team not to let in six goals against Manchester United," Hodgson.
"Give me six months and I'd organise them, if they had a half-decent goalkeeper and a couple of centre halves who can get in the way of the ball.”
Meanwhile, Red Devils legend and former Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Saar has backed Louis van Gaal to ‘do a Liverpool’ in his debut season, taking United from seventh place to the top of the Premier League.
"It's hard to get from seventh to first, but Liverpool almost did it - and I think United have more qualities than them,” said the Dutch stopper.
“Van Gaal is going to be very clear about what he wants and what he demands from his players.”
In transfer news, United are linked with Dutch youngster Memphis Depay, who could be a top target for the new boss.
According to reports, Van Gaal is keen to agree a deal for the £15 million rated youngster who is just 20 years of age, to take him from PSV Eindhoven before the start of the World Cup.
Meanwhile, United remain linked with Sporting midfielder William Carvalho who reportedly has a release clause of €45 million which the Red Devils could trigger this summer for the 22-year-old Portugal international.
However, defensive target Mats Hummels’ father insists his son does not plan to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, amidst reports the German international could be on his way to Old Trafford.
"I know Louis van Gaal from his time at Bayern Munich," Herman told talkSport.
"He's not contacted me about Mats moving to Manchester (United) though. I have heard some rumours but Mats is happy at Dortmund at the moment, and only thinking about the World Cup."
Elsewhere, United are set to launch a £30 million offer for Cesc Fabregas, according to The Metro despite being told the former Arsenal captain may be available for a bid in the region of £45 million this week.
Finally, United could rival Liverpool to sign long-term target Yehven Konoplyanka, according to the Manchester Evening News.
