Liverpool fans react to Ashley Cole rumours - 'I hope Rodgers has already taken him for tea and scones!'

Ashley Cole England

Liverpool fans have had their say on rumours the club is interested in signing left-back Ashley Cole.

Reports this morning suggest that Real Madrid have landed the first blow in the race to sign Ashley Cole ahead of next season, but Liverpool will be an extremely attractive proposition to the defender.

Los Blancos and Liverpool seem to be the two favourites at the moment to land Cole, with Jose Mourinho unwilling to keep the left-back on for some bizarre reason only the Portuguese coach will know.

However, Brendan Rodgers won’t care one bit if it provides him with a chance to not only improve the playing squad at his disposal but also to inject even more experience into his side.

Liverpool is an exciting place to be at the moment and although the club didn’t win the Premier League last season, they showed the sort of fight that few would have been expecting at the start of the campaign.

Cole would be a great signing for several reasons, with his nature as a left-back being one of the most obvious.

He’s never been afraid to get up and down the left hand side of any team, which creates potential knock on benefits for the Reds, related to how the side played last season.

If Cole moves to Liverpool, he can provide natural width down the left because he presses forward well and attacks effectively.

That takes the pressure off of Brendan Rodgers to find a cast iron left winger this summer, allowing him if he wishes, to continue using a combination of central midfielders and Daniel Sturridge on the left of his team.

When the left-back gets forward, those players naturally tuck inside and revert to their best positions which creates overcrowding in the middle and allows Liverpool to dominate possession.

Here’s what Liverpool fans have had to say about the prospect of the former England international linking up with them this summer.
