Following Lionel Messi’s new contract at Barcelona, another key player for the Camp Nou outfit has extended his stay in Catalunya.
Gerard Pique has put pen-to-paper on a new four-year deal, keeping him at his boyhood club until 2019.
There had been some transfer rumblings of a move for Pique from English sides, especially given that his previous deal expired in 2015.
With Carles Puyol confirming his departure from the club this summer and Javier Mascherano’s future unknown, Barcelona will rely on Pique to continue to be an essential part of their starting XI.
The Spain international is widely expected to play a significant role for his nation in their World Cup defence this summer in Brazil.
