Chelsea loan prodigy: One Direction star told me Mourinho is a big fan

Patrick Bamford has revealed that Niall Horan texts the Blues boss, who is fully aware of his great stint at Derby and MK Dons this term.

Chelsea have a host of returning loan stars, with one to potentially look out for Patrick Bamford.

The 20-year-old hitman scored a glut of goals during his temporary spells with MK Dons and Derby this term and could well be a player that features for the Blues in the future.

Bamford has revealed that he has found out that Jose Mourinho is keeping a close eye on him – through a rather unlikely source.

The attacker stated that he became friends with One Direction star Niall Horan, who is a big Derby fan and was in regular contact with Mourinho through text message.

“Niall from One Direction is a big Derby fan, he came down to the club and I was talking to him,” Bamford told The Guardian.

“Niall said: "Mourinho knows all about you, he texts me all the time." I said: "No he doesn’t." He showed me his phone, and because he was doing his treatment at Chelsea, for his knee injury, he knew all the Chelsea boys and Mourinho.

“And he had texts from Mourinho whenever I scored, saying "Bamford again!" That made me smile. That was the first time I knew that Mourinho knew about me.”

With the futures of all three current Chelsea first-team strikers under scrutiny there is a chance that Bamford could have a chance to feature next season.

Bamford scored eight goals in 14 starts for Derby.
