Andre Villas Boas’s Zenit St Petersburg are reportedly interested in Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, despite recent reports that Tottenham Hotspur had opened talks with the player’s agent.
The 21-year-old has been outstanding for two seasons now, first on loan at West Bromwich Albion and then during his temporary spell at Everton.
The Telegraph reported earlier this month that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had held talks with the player’s agent Christophe Henrotay, who had confirmed as much in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad.
Lukaku netted 16 times for the Toffees last season, and yet there are still doubts about whether he will be a first-choice player at Chelsea in the near future.
With talk of a move for Diego Costa, and a whole host of other goal-scorers continually linked with the Blues, the young Belgian’s future remains unclear.
But what is absolutely certain is that he has the talent to be a regular starter and is unlikely to make do with a place on the bench under Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham are likely to move for a new front-man this summer, having seen Jermain Defoe leave earlier in the campaign and with doubts over Roberto Soldado’s compatibility with the Premier League.
But the latest report suggests Villas-Boas could get one over his old club, and potentially pair him with another former Spurs target Hulk, in what would be a devastating strike-force.
