Team17’s zany annelid war continues on next gen consoles
Nearly twenty years have passed since Worms first had you blowing things up on Commodore Amiga. Over the years Team17’s hit turn-based artillery game has seen numerous versions on just about everything from CD32 to Facebook. Now it’s debuting on PS4 and Xbox One making the consoles the 26th and 27th platforms that Worms has been made for.
Worms Battlegrounds will be among the first titles to be released ID@Xbox, Microsoft’s free program allowing for games developers of all sizes to create and self-publish games for Xbox, of which Team17 are a prominent ambassador.
Worms Battlegrounds, the ultimate in worm warfare will be bringing in a host of new features. Running on 1080p at 6fps this game with benefit from some smooth gameplay with updated graphics. A wealth of customisation options will also be available with over 200 individual items, a clan emblem editor and a landscape editor to play with.
As before multiplayer deathmatch and fort battles are coming with support for local and online matches up to four players.
Your warring worms will also be getting the usual array of over-powered toys to fight it out with, there’s going to be physics based contraptions and an arsenal of 65 weapons and utilities at your disposal with 10 brand new items: The Mega Mortar, the Gravedigger, Winged Monkeys, Oxygen, Worm Charms, Bovine Blitz, Whoopsie Cushions, Teleport Guns, Aqua Packs and The Equalizer giving you a host of new destructive possibilities and tricks.
On the PS4 version the light bars on your Dualshock controllers will change colour from red for attacks and explosions, to blue if your worm is submerged under water and to green is your worm is poisoned. PS4 players will also be able to assign up to four weapon gestures for quick access.
Xbox One players will be getting a SmartGlass companion app to drop in and check their stats on and PS4 will get a companion site to do the same.
On 30th May Worms Battlegrounds is coming to PS4 and Xbox One both as a digital download and as a retail copy (US gamers will be able to get the download on 3rd June).
