In the meantime there's a Tony Hawks game coming to mobile devices.
Tony Hawks, the name behind the hit skateboarding games, has hinted that a new Tony Hawks Pro Skater game might be due for consoles.
Taking part in a Reddit AMA Hawks fielded questions from fans. In response to queries about a new THPS game he said, “There is a CHANCE of something in the future for newer consoles." Given that previous entries in the THPS are out on last gen we can safely assume he means PS4, Xbox One and Wii U with this tease.
While it may hurt THPS fans to hear it, Hawks went on to announce that “In the meanwhile, we are releasing TH Shred Sessions for mobile devices (iOS, Android, tablets) soon-ish,"
If a new THPS should come to console Hawks wants to keep the original controls however stating, "If we make a new console game, I would prefer to keep the original control scheme. That's what makes our series THPS, and not a copy of something else."
On release of Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD, a reboot of the first two THPS games, in 2012, Josh Tsui, CEO for devs Robomodo said at the time of a new THPS game, “The prospect of a fuller game is definitely on the table -- it's just a matter of when and how."
We’ll have to wait and see if Hawk’s comments prompt Activision to announce a new console version of THPS. While we wait, here’s a video of the man himself showing of the latest Tony Hawks Mobile game.
What do you make of the news? Do you think a TH mobile game is worthwhile or would you prefer to see moves from Activision to bring a new TH game to consoles?
