Reports over the weekend claimed Arsenal would bring Carlos Vela back to the club this summer, activating his reported £3.3million buy-back clause.
The Mexican has enjoyed a fine spell in La Liga having failed to make significant waves during his time in North London. But with Arsene Wenger reportedly on the look-out for striking additions, Vela was touted as one such player.
But what about his current club Real Sociedad? If Vela does leave, how will they replace his goals?
Well, if Mundo Deportivo is to be believed, they could replace him with one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe…at least for one season.
The report claims Sociedad have spoken to Real Madrid about the possibility of bringing Alvaro Morata to the club on loan. The irony of which is that Morata was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal before the Vela rumours went into overdrive.
So could Sociedad actually end up with a better player than the one Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of re-signing?
Well, if everything goes through, then that is a distinct possibility. After all, Morata’s goals-per-minute ratio this season makes him the most effective striker in La Liga, with a strike every 79 minutes.
The latest report claims Real would only be willing to sanction the loan move if Morata agrees to a contract extension at the Bernabeu. So there is still some work to be done before this rumour becomes a reality.
But it would be an interesting turn of events if Vela heads back to Arsenal only to be replaced by the striker many expected to be moving to the Emirates this summer.
