Mesut Ozil makes promise to Arsenal fans via Facebook

Arsenal playmaker tells fans they will not have to wait as long for their next trophy.

After a nine year wait without a trophy, Arsenal can turn the page after securing the 2014 FA Cup.

Aaron Ramsey's extra time goal ensured the Gunners did not need penalties to see off a spirited Hull City in a thrilling final at Wembley.

Star signing Mesut Ozil did not produce a dominant performance fans may have hoped for but that mattered little amid the ensuing celebrations.

And the German has pledged that there will be no such similar wait for a trophy as fans have just had to endure.

Writing on his Facebook page, Ozil said: "Two wonderful days I will never forget! I'm especially happy for our fans who supported us till the end. but nine years are definitely too long. for our next title we won't wait that long anymore."

Ozil has now won cup competitions in three separate countries, with Werder Bremen in Germany in 2009, the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid in 2012 and now the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2014. He can also count a 2011 La Liga title among his honours.

The playmaker knows little about waiting for trophies and would not have joined Arsenal in the first instance if he did not believe it possible.

Now the rest of the squad will be able to boast a winners' mentality, rather than the self doubt that has held them back on previous occasions. This may have been the threshold Arsenal needed to break.
