Manchester United fans react on Twitter to LVG appointment - 'Nothing wrong with arrogance'

Louis van Gaal - suited and booted

Manchester United confirmed that Louis van Gaal will be their next manager yesterday.

Manchester United have finally confirmed the summer’s worst kept secret so far; Louis van Gaal will be the club’s new manager, on a three-year contract.

The Dutchman was confirmed into his new position yesterday, but his representatives were very quick to stress that he wouldn’t be leaving his duties with the Netherlands in any capacity until after the World Cup.

Van Gaal has been extremely respectful towards his current employers, fending off questions over the last couple of weeks over his role at United while he’s been preparing the Dutch national side for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Now that he’s been confirmed as United’s new boss, United fans can start to get a bit excited about the prospect of what will happen to their club this summer, after the tournament has finished and van Gaal heads to England to take up his post.

Several reports within the British press have suggested that he’s already indicated to the club who he wants them to try and buy this summer, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward reportedly working away on several top transfer deals.

It was a disappointing campaign for United last season and the decision to sack David Moyes just before the end of the campaign wouldn’t have come as a surprise to many who watched United last year.

The new boss will have a lot of work to do in terms of taking the side on, improving it and getting it into a position where it’s ready to fly out of the traps when the Premier League gets under way.

What van Gaal has going for him is the financial strength United possess off the field through their global commercial network and the fact United will be playing fewer games next season.

No European football means United will benefit as Liverpool did last season, having full weeks of rest between domestic matches which will also allow van Gaal to work on the weaknesses of some key players.

Here’s what United fans have had to say about their new manager.
