Liverpool target exits Ligue 1 with Premier League in sights

Mexico football team huddle

Mexico national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has departed current club Ajaccio with a potential move to Anfield and the Premier League in his sights.

This summer’s World Cup will be a big one for any number of Liverpool players with the Reds facing a fight to keep Luis Suarez, should he impress, while Uruguay teammate Sebastian Coates faces a fight for his future at the Anfield club.

But one man who may currently be flying under the radar for many Merseysiders is goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Included in Mexico’s squad for the finals in Brazil, the tournament could prove to be something of an audition for the 28-year-old ahead of a potential move to Anfield.

The Express previously linked Liverpool with a move for the Ajaccio keeper, who is available on a free having left the recently-relegated Ligue 1 club this week.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to favour a move for the Mexican, who will provide competition for Simon Mignolet next term, with Pepe Reina likely to depart over the summer.

Liverpool could face some competition for the goalkeeper though, with AC Milan also thought to be tracking the North American star.

The Premier League side have a real advantage, in that they can offer Ochoa the opportunity to play Champions League football.

But with the Rossoneri keep to recruit a long-term replacement for Christian Abbiati, the Mexican has a difficult decision on his hands.

And with the World Cup just around the corner, the 28-year-old may opt to bide his time ahead of completing any deal, with an impressive showing in Brazil likely to secure a big contract for the Guadalajara-born star.

With games against Cameroon, Croatia and the hosts in the offing, Liverpool fans now have an extra excuse to watch the World Cup this summer.
