Newly appointed Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is eyeing the title in his debut season in charge at Old Trafford.
The 62-year-old Netherlands boss hopes to replicate his success in his first seasons at Barcelona and Bayern Munich by winning the Premier League title next season.
"I would be proud if it works right away," he said. "Spain saw me succeed in my first year and in Germany as well. In England, it must also be possible.
"But there can only be one champion,” he added.
Louis van Gaal insists he will be allowed to spend big this summer to rebuild United ahead of the new campaign.
"We don't talk about money. We talked about the players I want. We’ll have to see if we can get them. We also talked about who can go,” he stated.
"If you look at their budget, they have to finish high. The aim is to bring them back to the No.1 position as soon as possible, because that’s where they were under Sir Alex Ferguson."
In transfer news, The Guardian reports United’s Top 10 transfer targets under Van Gaal this summer ahead of the transfer window opening on July 1st. Luke Shaw, Mats Hummels, and Toni Kroos feature.
Manchester Evening News’ United correspondent Stuart Mathieson is convinced Luke Shaw’s move to Old Trafford is ‘almost a done deal’.
The Mirror has suggests the Top Five young Dutch stars Van Gaal could look to bring to United after the World Cup in Brazil.
Meanwhile, The Mirror also continues to link United with a bid for Cesc Fabregas after reports emerged earlier this week that Barcelona are willing to sell the former Arsenal captain for £40 million this summer.
