The midfielder took to twitter to respond to comments made by his agent.
If Manchester City fans were alarmed by quotes from his agent this morning then they will probably feel none the wiser now their talismanic midfielder has taken to twitter.
His agent Dimitri Seluk was quoted saying the Ivory Coast international was unhappy at City’s attempts to mark his birthday with just a tweet.
Seluk said Toure was ‘very upset’ by City’s hierarchy not acknowledging him personally.
He added: “The club’s owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday. It shows they don’t care about him.
“Of course Yaya is upset about this. It is his birthday and nobody said anything or shook his hand, so he does not feel comfortable.
“The most important thing is a human relationship and maybe this is his opportunity for Yaya to find that. If City don’t’ respect him, then, easy, Yaya will leave. No problem.”
The 31-year-old seemed to make a joke about the comments made by his agent when he took to twitter.
Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived... Must have got lost in the post. Haha— yaya toure (@Toure_yaya42) May 20, 2014
Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of MY mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances.— yaya toure (@Toure_yaya42) May 20, 2014
Toure was impressive as City won both the Premier League and the League Cup as he played a big part in winning both prizes – notably his stunning equaliser in the League Cup final against Sunderland to go along with his 20 goals in the Premier League campaign.
It appears that despite the comments coming from his agent, Toure is prepared to stick around at the Etihad Stadium, no matter what may or may not have happened regarding acknowledgement of his birthday.
However he did add later on that everything that his agent said was true and he will give a full interview after the World Cup.
My agent was trying to make a point here on my behalf, joke aside. It seems important for me to make a statement..i am going to do so.— yaya toure (@Toure_yaya42) May 20, 2014
Everything dimitry said is true . He speaks for me . I will give an interview after world cup to explain— yaya toure (@Toure_yaya42) May 20, 2014
It could be a long six weeks or so for Manchester City fans as they await what he has to say, and it could be a nervous wait.
