Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of Bayern Munich players, and now German newspaper Bild has had its say.
Even before Louis van Gaal was officially named as the new manager of Manchester United, numerous rumours abounded that the English side were set to raid Bayern Munich this summer.
The Toni Kroos stories have been going on for some time, but then there were those linking Thomas Muller to Old Trafford, then Arjen Robben, and more recently the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Holger Badstuber.
In short, it seemed that United wanted to bring in half the current reigning Bundesliga champions, and Pep Guardiola would seemingly not bat an eyelid.
But now German newspaper Bild has had its say on the rumours, talking about four of the players linked with a move to van Gaal’s new side. And it is not great news for United fans.
On Robben, the paper claims a move is “completely excluded” and that the Dutch attacker is very much at home in Munich.
This is really no surprise, and given that the former Chelsea star has only recently signed a new deal at the Allianz Arena, the links with United were lazy rather than realistic.
Similarly, it is claimed Badstuber will not be leaving, as he feels he owes the club after they stood by him during his torrid spell out of the side with injury.
The paper also appears to think that while Mandzukic is likely to leave this summer, it will not be to United, with Arsenal or Juventus the more likely destination.
And then there is Kroos – the player long-linked with United and one who was formerly dubbed as David Moyes’ saviour prior to his departure.
With a contract until 2015 and a reported impasse in negotiations, this one seems possible. Although Bild echos the sentiments of many by claiming the most likely outcome is a free transfer in 12 months – be that to United or somewhere else entirely.
