Everton move into the summer transfer window coming off the back of a fine season in the Premier League where manager Roberto Martinez led the team to a superb fifth place finish, racking up their highest points total in the club's Premier League history. The Spaniard has worked wonders since moving from Wigan Athletic, and defender Seamus Coleman has been speaking about the season and the forthcoming summer.
"We’ve had a good season. To be honest, this season has flown by and we feel full of energy because of how well we’ve been doing and because it’s been a successful season. I think it’s important for all the lads now to get away and get some rest, enjoy their summer and come back again for another big season next year," Coleman said.
Coleman's Republic of Ireland team mate Shane Duffy has returned to Merseyside after a loan spell with Championship side Yeovil Town, but questions remain over the centre back's future at Goodison Park. Duffy, 22, has long been tabbed as a star of the future and the defender hopes that he will be able to stay with the Toffees.
"I will have to sit down with the manager and see what he wants for me and what I need to do to push on here or push on somewhere else. Hopefully it is here," Duffy continued. "I will take my rest this summer, keep working hard and see what next season brings."
Martinez will need depth to his squad if they are to compete in both the Premier League and the Europa League, and has already been linked with a number of new players. With Gareth Barry's future up in the air, a central midfielder may be high on the list of targets, and Portuguese press suggest that Porto midfielder Steven Defour is a primary target for Martinez this summer.
