United morning news: ‘Van Gaal announcement today’; Luke Shaw latest

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

Louis van Gaal looks likely to be announced as the new manager of Manchester United today, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The Dutch national coach has been touted as David Moyes’ permanent replacement for some time; but as yet no announcement has been made and van Gaal has remained tight-lipped about the possibility.

But now it is being claimed that United could well make the news official at some point before midnight.

In other news, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan has told Talk Sport that van Gaal will run a tight ship if he does take the job.

“I don’t think Wayne Rooney will be able to drink half a lager anywhere around Manchester without van Gaal knowing,” van der Kraan said, “because he’d have to report what time he’d be in bed at night on his laptop.”

Whether the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss adopts this approach at United remains to be seen.

And finally, the Daily Star reports that Luke Shaw’s move to Old Trafford could go through soon, with current left-back Patrice Evra seemingly on his way to Italy.

Reports over the weekend claimed the Frenchman had held talks and undergone a medical with Juventus prior to a likely summer move.

And the latest story claims van Gaal has instructed United to push ahead with more youthful signings – a box Southampton man Shaw certainly ticks.
