PICTURE: Dutch paper predicts Van Gaal's United XI - With spectacular signings

Is this how Manchester United will look under new manager Louis van Gaal?

Louis van Gaal has been confirmed as Manchester United manager, and the planning into his side to conquer the Premier League will now be underway.

United have a substantial pot of money to spend on transfer targets this summer, with key positions to fill, particularly at centre-back.

Dutch newspaper NOS have attempted to predict Van Gaal's United team, with spectacular results.

They expect the Red Devils to secure five major signings, four of which could cost substantial money.

Potential incomings include defenders Mats Hummels, Luke Shaw, and Daryl Janmaat. Highly priced midfielder Kevin Strootman and forward Thomas Muller add further talent to the projected side.

Janmaat would be the cheapest of the quintet. A Feyenoord right-back, he is part of Van Gaal's Dutch World Cup squad and is just 23-years-old.

Thomas Muller played under Van Gaal at Bayern Munich, where he scored a goal in the German Cup Final at the weekend. The German champions will not let him go easily.

Luke Shaw and Mats Hummels are obvious candidates, the German among the best in Europe in his position and Shaw capable of becoming that, so highly regarded that he kept Ashley Cole out of the England squad.

Kevin Strootman over Toni Kroos is a big call, but it is perhaps taking into account that Bayern would only let one player leave at the most, and certainly not two. The Roma man is recovering from injury but tipped to be fit for the start of the season.

If United could line-up with a side like this next season, they will surely be among the favourites in the title race under Van Gaal's tutelage, despite their poor campaign this past year.

Even if they can sign just three of these five, it will represent a major step forward.
