Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants Zlatan Ibrahimovic to become the club’s sporting director when he hangs up his boots.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has just completed one of the most successful seasons of his career at an age when most players start thinking about retirement.

The Sweden international striker scored on the final day of the 2013-14 Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday, as PSG hammered Montpellier 4-0 at Parc des Princes. It was the 32-year-old’s 26th league goal of the season – his 41st in 45 matches in all competitions – and saw him finish the season as the top scorer in the French top flight.

Add to that tally the fact that Ibra has provided 11 assists in the league, and you cannot help but marvel at how someone in his 30s can play so well. Oh, he also scored 10 goals in just eight appearances in the Champions League, as Laurent Blanc’s side made it through to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition for the second year in a row.

There are still a few more years left in one of the world’s best and most enigmatic players, but PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is already looking ahead to what he plans to do with Ibra after he hangs up his boots.

‘I spoke to Zlatan so that he will stay with us when he finishes his playing career and becomes sporting director’, he told RTL radio. ‘If he does that, then he will become the best sporting director in the world. He's got a big personality and everybody respects him’.

It will be interesting to see how Ibrahimovic handles himself as a sporting director. Of course, that is still quite a number of years away, but given his personality and character, it is clear that he will bring a certain charisma to a job that is largely seen as, shall we say, colourless.

Will Ibra be the “best sporting director in the world”? Who knows, but he will certainly be the most interesting. That’s for sure!
