Manchester City latest: Defender ‘having talks’; glimmer of hope in Messi chase?

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna has travelled to Manchester City for talks over a possible move according to Goal.

The Frenchman is coming to the end of his current deal at the Gunners and is widely tipped to leave this summer rather than sign a new contract in North London.

The latest report claims Sagna could even complete his medical and sign a deal as early as Tuesday if there are no last-minute hiccups.

While City may be signing one new defender, they could miss out on another, with reported target Mehdi Benatia said to be on the radar of Barcelona.

The Daily Mail has picked up on reports from Italy that claim the Roma player could be the subject of a big-money bid from the Catalan side.

In other news, the Express has published quotes attributed to Lionel Messi, in which he reveals he could “look for a solution” if Barcelona no longer feel affection for him.

“It’s down to the people at Barcelona to decide what to do with my future,” he is quoted as writing, “but my choice is to stay as I still feel the same affection from them.

“But if that isn’t the case I’ll look for a solution.”

With City previously linked with a huge but somewhat unlikely move for the superstar, could this be the glimmer of hope they were waiting for?

Probably not, but it is fun to dream, right?
