Louis Van Gaal will not get his own banner following 'The Chosen One' debacle

Incoming manager Louis Van Gaal will not be getting his own banner at Old Trafford after David Moyes' proved to be a bit of a jinx.

Louis Van Gaal has finally been announced as the new manager of Manchester United with Ryan Giggs becoming his assistant manager and also therefore announcing his retirement from playing.

Following the appointment of David Moyes last year the fans unveiled a banner which was placed on the Stretford End, reading 'The Chosen One' with a picture of Moyes. Of course he was chosen by Sir Alex Ferguson but a lacklustre season for Moyes led to this banner being the butt of many jokes. Some fans hired a plane to fly over Old Trafford with the message 'The Wrong One - Moyes Out'.

The original banner was produced to show the club's support for Moyes following Ferguson's message to get behind your new manager. However the banner turned out to be somewhat of a curse and following this there will not be a banner for Van Gaal as of yet.

For Moyes it was a huge challenge to move up from Everton to Manchester United whereas Van Gaal has regularly managed on the greatest stages with the greatest clubs. The Dutchman has previously managed Barcelona, Ajax, and Bayern Munich.

"I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are. This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history, said the Dutchman following his appointment.

There will be a different feeling towards this appointment as there was to Moyes as fans know Van Gaal arrives with a lot of experience. The United faithful may therefore be expecting immediate improvements although Louis will have his work cut out trying to rebuild the squad after he finishes work with the Netherlands at the World Cup.
