Incredible Wenger comments show how far Arsenal boss has come

Arsene Wenger Pre FA Cup Press Conference 2

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger never imagined he would be a multiple FA Cup winner.

Arsene Wenger was joyous in celebration at Wembley on Saturday, having led the Gunners to their first trophy in nine seasons.

It was the fifth time he had lifted the trophy, an all-time record equal only with Sir Alex Ferguson.

The achievement is one Wenger dared not even dream of as a child, a point he emphasised eloquently in his pre-match programme notes:

"We used to watch the match on a black and white television at school when I was about 10 years old - so around 1959. We had to bring some money to watch the game and I remember that I was just so happy to see this big match.

"It was a big event for the village because nobody had a television at home. I remember the perfect pitch and the white balls; it was a dream to watch. As a kid you were dreaming to be there and I could never have imagined that I would be involved in FA Cup Finals like I have been."

The Frenchman appears set to extend his own contract with Arsenal, and put himself in with a fighting chance of winning more silverware in coming season, having now broken their extensive drought.

It surely would not be entirely unsurprising to see Wenger go onto break Sir Alex's record outright, and further solidify his reputation as a legend.
