Liverpool morning news, club linked with Manchester City midfielder, interest in Barcelona star

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.

Liverpool are said to be interested in Manchester City midfielder James Milner according to reports in the Guardian and the Times this morning

City don’t want to lose the midfielder because of the lack of English players in the squad, and Milner doesn’t want to commit to a new deal – with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2015.

Arsenal are also interested and are set to make a bid for Milner, whilst Liverpool are still considering their options and haven’t decided whether to make an offer.

Another reported target for Liverpool is Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez according to the Daily Express. Brendan Rodgers is prepared to pay £18m for the player who is said to be unhappy at Barcelona. The report indicates that Fabio Borini could be sold to Sunderland for £8m to fund part of the deal.

The Reds are still being linked with a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old is said to cost as much as £10m but Bayern Munich, who sold the player to Leverkusen last summer, have first refusal on any deal and could potentially take him back to the Allianz Arena.

German outlet, Kicker, is also strongly linking the left-sided player with a move to Anfield, whilst the Mail’s report has also indicated interested in Julian Brandt, who is also on the books of Bayer Leverkusen.
