The movie-world money-making sequel machine shows no signs of slowing.
Godzilla hit the cinemas last week grossing $103 million (around £61 million) internationally making it the highest opening takings for a film so far this year. It comes as little surprise then to hear that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros have just announced that Godzilla 2 is already in production.
Compared to the last 1998 Godzilla with Matthew Broderick which opened to $44 million (around £26 million) in the US and ended up grossing $379 million (around £225 million) worldwide, the new Godzilla title looks a strong bet to beat its predecessor.
British director Gareth Edwards has been on record as saying that a possible Godzilla sequel would use a similar kind of restraint to the current movie taking cues from Spielberg to reveal the monster slowly, building up the suspense of the movie.
What do you make of the news,? If you’ve seen Godzilla did you think it was good enough to make you want a sequel?
