German giants table €30m offer for Arsenal linked striker - report

Wolfsburg have submitted a hefty bid for Manchester United and Arsenal linked striker Mattia Destro, according to reports in Italy.

Mattia Destro has attracted attention from around Europe with a productive season for AS Roma despite significant time on the sidelines.

The 23-year-old missed the first three months of the campaign through a long-term knee injury and served a controversial four-game suspension in the run-in.

But in just 20 Serie A appearances Destro scored an impressive 13 times, at one point outpacing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa in average goals per 90 minutes.

And suitors have taken notice of his exploits, with Il Messaggero suggesting earlier this month that Manchester United and Arsenal had been in contact with his agent.

Competition appears to be stiff for Destro’s signature, however, as Sky Sport Italia now claim that the Premier League pair have been beaten to the punch.

Wolfsburg have reportedly tabled a massive €30million offer for the Giallorossi forward and are prepared to double his current wages with a €3million per year wage packet.

Though whilst the Bundesliga giants’ bid may seem irresistible, it doesn’t seem that Roma - or Destro - are willing to budge.

The ex-Siena man is reportedly keen to stay at the Stadio Olimpico, where he’d have the opportunity to play Champions League football - something Wolfsburg can’t offer.

Furthermore, it’s also believed Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini has tagged his young striker as untouchable this summer.

If Arsenal or United were planning to make a move to counter Wolfsburg's, then they would seemingly be hard pressed to land Destro if the Germans' tempting offer is being brushed aside.

Roma don’t appear willing to part ways with a player that has a bright future after their best season in years ever at great financial gain, so Wolfsburg and the Premier League pair would do well to look elsewhere.
