Roma's Tin Jedvaj who rejected Tottenham has no regrets despite season of woe

Tin Jedvaj was linked to Tottenham last summer but chose Roma instead.

Tottenham didn't exactly hit the jackpot on every player they signed last summer, with only Christian Eriksen proving an instant success.

One they may have done well to pass on is Croatian teenager Tin Jedvaj, who was at one stage reported to be bound for White Hart Lane, The Sun reporting they were 'close' to signing the defender last summer.

Jedvaj landed up signing for Serie A side Roma, but his season has been far from productive.

The teenager has played just eight minutes of Serie A football since his move from Dinamo Zagreb prior to the weekend.

He was handed a first start on Sunday, the final game of the campaign in Roma's 1-0 loss to Genoa.

The defender is taking it as encouragement, and says he sees his future with the Giallorossi despite the slow first season.

"I'm happy with my performance even though I know I can do better."

"My ambitions for the future? I do not know, the season is over, but my future is obviously in Rome."

Jedvaj won more aerial duels (3) than any other Roma defender during the weekend loss, and completed 92 per cent of his passes.

He also won five tackles and made 10 effective clearances, more than any of his colleagues during the defeat.

It was an encouraging end of season cameo for the youngster, and one to highlight that he still has plenty to offer despite being overlooked almost the entire season.

Right now however, Tottenham won't yet be kicking themselves that they missed out.
