Sherwood in subtle dig at Villas-Boas and co over £5.25m midfielder

Tim Sherwood does not believe Tottenham Hotspur should have sold Tom Huddlestone in the summer.

Yesterday Arsenal took on Hull city in the FA Cup final and one of the studio guests, freshly unemployed after being sacked by Arsenal's bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, was Tim Sherwood.

The outspoken former midfielder, who is now the favourite to take over at West Brom, lost his job despite holding the best win percentage of any Spurs boss in history.

The Spurs board reportedly tired of his poor results in the big games and what he says after the games. So he walked the plank and is passing the time now with a little bit of part-time punditry.

And when pressed on his hopes for the game he seemed to have a sly dig at his former employers over the sale of one player.

Hull have a midfield duo with Tottenham history. Jake Livermore is on loan from White Hart Lane and is a player that Sherwood helped come through the ranks. They also have Tom Huddlestone. The midfielder was sold by Spurs last summer as Andre Villas-Boas seemed to lose faith in the England international.

But Sherwood thinks letting the player, who has had a great term at the KC Stadium, go was a mistake from AVB, Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini:

"I just want to see Jake Livermore do well, who's a boy I had at Tottenham. And also Tom Huddlestone, who is a player I think should still be at Tottenham."

Huddlestone has been excellent since his £5.25 million switch from Spurs, playing an integral role in the club's survival upon their return to the top flight.

But he would not have got the playing time he had at Hull this term in a Spurs shirt this season - of that we can be sure of. Tottenham could certainly have done with Huddlestone on occasions this season one thing for sure is this - Huddlestone is better off for leaving Spurs.
